Editorial #45 Immigration, February 26, 2019
Most of us remember the tragic bank robbery in Norfolk, Sara Root’s senseless death, the violent death of Louise Sollowin and then Mollie Tibbetts — the searing pain experienced by those families is near and dear to all Nebraskans. And yet, Senator Megan Hunt of District #8 has introduced a bill to create a sanctuary status in our state, Nebraska the “good life”. It wasn’t good for Sara, Louise or the other victims. We couldn’t protect them from criminal illegals. Illegal immigration is an issue we deal with every day in Nebraska.
No one can argue with our core values of Truth, Fairness, Sustainability and Integrity used by our country’s founders along with adhering to the golden rule. But when these core values and rules are violated, disguised as compassion and advancing the cause of social justice, it’s going a bit too far. Where is the social justice for Sara or Louise, where is the compassion?
What is happening in California and other states? What are the unintended consequences of illegal immigration dressed in the disguise of compassion and social justice? Businesses and citizens are leaving California in droves. Why would we want to import the left’s philosophies and ruin our great state, as well?
LB 502 introduced by Senator Megan Hunt is known as “The Limited Immigration Inquiry Act”. It simply states that no public officer shall be allowed to inquire about the immigration status of anyone else.
This is trying to make Nebraska a sanctuary state. It makes it a crime to expose anyone who is in this country illegally. It requires they be protected from being exposed as a possible Trojan Horse, taking advantage of all the benefits and subsidies afforded only to citizens of our country, not to mention voting privileges. This is also meant to provide a short cut to amnesty, bypassing the standard procedures for citizenship.
This proposal violates every one of our fundamental core values of fairness, truth, sustainability and integrity, with the secret agenda not one of compassion, but one of recruiting future liberal voters in an effort to convert our system of government into a socialistic state.
The hypocrisy of these sort of laws must be exposed for what they are. Their objective is to gradually flood the country with liberal supporters who will keep liberal politician in office and continue to give away your tax dollars to those who will vote other liberals into office. And at what cost? Ask Sara’s or Louise’s family—it is a high cost indeed.
Disguising the true motive behind such proposals is the epitome of hypocrisy. This must be exposed for what it is: “a gradual power grab by liberal politicians”. We the citizens of this great state, are the representatives of the “Second House” in our legislature. Contact our senators to voice your concern and outrage for even considering such a proposal be made into law.

Keith– have you ever thought that you might be the monster?
We who live here in the state of Nebraska do not want our lovely state to become a sanctuary city. We have enough problem with illegal immigrants in our state. What they are doing is against the law. They do not belong here and need to be deported. I do not agree with this bill.
