Editorial #316 Things that will kill You
The media is in an arms race with itself. Reporters and news outlets have only one objective: to be more sensational than any other story that day. This drives ratings, which is the only thing that matters to them. And since the media, not the government, runs the country, they need to be noticed so they can sneak subliminal messages, propagandizing us without our being conscious of it. Despite our understanding that some self-restraint is called for, it is difficult to look away from a train wreck.
Stories which get everyone’s attention relate to items that affect our health and longevity. The cranberry cancer scare in the ‘50’s is the first that I can remember. Since then, practically every food we consume has been diagnosed as harmful at some time with the kind of harm ranging from a moral threat to toxic and fatal if ingested.
Just living is hazardous to your health as the longer you live the greater the likelihood you will die of something, as no one dies completely healthy.
This pandemic is only the latest of the things the government and media named as a threat. Cancer has been around since the dawn of civilization with the cause one of three things: Genetic predisposition, the food we consume or the environment. None of us can avoid any of these things. The pharmaceutical companies exacerbate this by advertising they can alleviate or lessen your health concerns. They champion treatments that have side effects that often worse than the malady, with death frequently listed as nothing more incidental than headaches or indigestion.
The ever expanding list of maladies is now largely treated by pharmaceuticals that are dependent upon China for the supply of ingredients, which are subject to far less rigorous standards. After the World Wars, Korea, Viet Nam and 911 the list of things that will kill us, ironically including the stress induced by the fear of all of these, is expanding annually.
2000 Y2K, 2001 Anthrax, 2002 West Nile Virus, 2003 SARS, 2004 MRSA, 2005 Bird Flu, 2006 E.coli, 2008 the Financial collapse, 2009 Swine Flu, 2012 The Mayan Calendar predicted the end of the world, 2013 North Korea, 2014 Ebola virus, 2015 ISIS, 2016 Zika Virus, 2020 Corona virus, 2021 The Delta Variant and the entire Greek alphabet is still available for providing an endless stream of names for new viruses. These are threats that Big Pharma seems disinterested in curing, just bankrupting you with treatments or testing. The new woke response, recommends compassionate euthanasia if your age renders you a poor investment.
Add to this list: nuclear arms, acid rain, global cooling, global warming and now climate change. Actually, the one that is most dangerous and completely over looked is plastic. It is interesting that plastic is the only thing of which we can address, individually, beside washing our hands and turning off our TV.
Reviewing current status quo objectively: The planet has not been cleaner since before the dawn of the industrial revolution. We are living longer than ever before. We are experiencing marvels in technology and transportation. The potential of nuclear fusion, were activists not protesting it and trying to project us back into primitive conditions, is on the horizon, delivering unlimited quantities of clean energy that would resolve all our pollution, water and power problems for the planet until the sun burns out.
If we let them, the media will always find something to make us hostage to fear. None of us leaves this world alive. Our only purpose is to make the world a better place and use our short span of mortality to make choices that will save our own soul in the process.
This is Keith Kube wishing you the best in making the world a better place.
